The Duggars are supporting in Trump in the 2020 election — but rather than sticking campaign signs in their front lawn, their mowing his message right into the grass.
On Wednesday, Northwest Arkansas’ CBS affiliate 5NEWS shared an image of a local highway taken from above, showing the words ‘TRUMP 2020’ mowed and burned into the grass along the side of the road.
Though they didn’t identify the political landscaper responsible for the message, oldest son Josh Duggar‘s wife Anna soon shared the post and credited her 16-year-old brother-in-law Justin for the grassy shout-out.
Planting ideas: Josh Duggar’s wife Anna revealed on Instagram that Justin Duggar used some creative landscaping to campaign for Trump in the 2020 election
Grab ’em by the lawn mower! Justin, 16, is the 14th of 19 kids and is not yet old enough to vote
‘Looks like Justin’s lawn “art” is picking up some local attention,’ Anna, 30, wrote in an Instagram Story post.
Rats! His birthday is November 15, meaning he’ll miss voting in the 2020 presidential election by about two weeks
She added a trio of emojis including an American flag, a laughing face, and a shushing face.
The official Duggar family account hasn’t yet confirmed that it was Justin’s handiwork, but it isn’t much of a surprise that the bulk of the Duggar clan is supporting the President.
The family has a history in Republican politics.
Patriarch Jim Bob, 54, served in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1999 to 2002, and was vice chair of the House Corrections and Criminal Law Subcommittee during that time.
In 2002, he ran for a seat in the United States Senate but lost in the primary. He later also lost a race for the Arkansas State Senate.
Though his political career ended, his oldest son Josh seemed keen to follow in his footsteps until a series of public scandals derailed his career in 2015.
So well-informed: The Duggars are all pretty politically minded, though none explicitly shared who they voted for in the 2016 election (pictured Josiah and Lauren voting in 2018)
Bible stuff: However, their publicly-stated beliefs about abortion, guns, and LGBTQ rights indicate that most if not all are Republicans
The 31-year-old worked as a part-time political consultant in 2007, and in 2008 worked on the Republican presidential primary campaign of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.
He also campaigned for presidential candidate Rick Santorum in 2012, telling a crowd: ‘Our family is like the epitome of conservative values. People connect to us in that way.’
Finally, he took a job as executive director of FRC Action, a conservative political action and lobbying group where he engaged in ‘taking the message of faith, family and freedom all across America.’
But Josh left his job in 2015 after inTouch revealed that he had molested five little girls — including four of his younger sisters — when he was a teenager. Soon after, Josh was discovered to have an account on the adultery website Ashley Madison, and he admitted to being unfaithful to his wife and watching pornography.
‘I have been the biggest hypocrite ever,’ he said in a public statement at the time. ‘While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife.’
A true role model: Oldest brother Josh, 31, is an outspoken Republican and served on the Family Research Council in Washington D.C. until his career was derailed by scandal
The Lord’s work: The Duggars have been longtime friends of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee and in 2008 Josh worked on his Republican presidential primary campaign
Family values: He also campaigned for presidential candidate Rick Santorum in 2012, telling a crowd: ‘Our family is like the epitome of conservative values. People connect to us in that way’
Sex pest: Josh resigned from the Family Research Council in Washington D.C. after reports that he molested his younger sisters and cheated on his wife
Stand-up guy: His wife Anna has stood by him, and they are now expecting their sixth child
He added: ‘The last few years, while publicly stating I was fighting against immorality in our country while hiding my own personal failings.
Second-oldest son John David, 29, is also an elected official, serving as a Constable. He ran as a Republican.
Teenager Justin, who mowed the Trump message into the grass, is too young to vote or run for office, though he is already proving to be politically minded.
While the rest of the Duggars and their spouses have stayed off ballots, many have expressed political opinions and are politically active.
In 2015, matriarch Michelle, 52, came under public scrutiny for recording a transphobic robocall in opposition to an anti-discrimination bill in Arkansas.
‘Hello, this is Michelle Duggar,’ she said in the recording. ‘I’m calling to inform you of some shocking news that would affect the safety of Northwest Arkansas women and children.
Spreading God’s love: Mom and dad Michelle and Jim Bob are also politically active, and Michelle once recorded an anti-trans robocall to defeat an anti-descrimination bill in Arkansas
Snazzy dressers: Jim Bob ran for a seat in the US Senate in 2002 but lost
Political agenda: Jim Bob (left) is pictured alongside his eldest son, Josh (center), and Mike Huckabee, whom he endorsed in 2008
Presidential campaign: In January 2012, 12 of the Duggar children joined Jim Bob in Iowa to campaign for then-presidential candidate Rick Santorum
‘The Fayetteville City Council is voting on an ordinance this Tuesday night that would allow men – yes, I said men – to use women’s and girls’ restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas and other areas that are designated for females only.
The law: Second-oldest son John David, 29, is also an elected official, serving as a local Constable. He ran as a Republican and has held the position for several years
‘I don’t believe the citizens of Fayetteville would want males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls.
‘I doubt that Fayetteville parents would stand for a law that would endanger their daughters or allow them to be traumatized by a man joining them in their private space.
‘Parents, who do you want undressing next to your daughter at the public swimming pool’s private changing area?’
She and Jim Bob also had all of their kids record a campaign video endorsing Rick Santorum in 2012.
Yet the only Duggar relative to publicly and vocally come out in support of Trump thus far is 28-year-old Jill’s husband Derick Dillard, 30.
Love thy neighbor: Jill’s husband Derick Dillard is a vocal conservative who has clashed with trans teen and fellow TLC star Jazz Jennings
Central American missionaries: Derick shared a picture of his four-year-old son Israel with a caption about building Trump’s border wall
Two right feet: In October of 2017, he visited White House and bought a pair of Trump socks, which he showed off on Instagram
In May of 2018, Derick shared a picture of his then-three-year-old son Israel smiling and sitting on the floor at home. Israel had stacked several blocks in a row next to a toy excavator.
‘Israel helping Trump build “The Wall.”‘ he wrote, adding ‘LOL’ and a grinning emoji.
And in October of 2017, he visited White House and bought a pair of Trump socks, which he showed off on Instagram.
However, at least one member of the family did not vote for Trump in 2016.
Jessa Duggar’s husband Ben Seewald tweeted in 2017 that he doesn’t align himself with one part or another — and in fact, he voted third party in the last election.
‘I voted–Just not for Trump or Hillary. I’m just saying I don’t choose to identify myself with either of those parties first and foremost,’ he said.
‘I’m not a Democrat or a Republican. But I love both Democrats & Republicans. Jesus does too. He is the ultimate solution to U.S. problems.’
Voting his conscience: Jessa Duggar’s husband Ben Seewald is the only person to come out to say he did not vote for Trump in 2016
‘I’m not a Democrat or a Republican. But I love both Democrats & Republicans. Jesus does too. He is the ultimate solution to U.S. problems,’ he said
‘I voted–Just not for Trump or Hillary. I’m just saying I don’t choose to identify myself with either of those parties first and foremost,’ he added
He also made it clear that he doesn’t wholly approve of either Trump or the GOP in 2016, retweeting several critical remarks about them — including one tweet mocking hypocracy in the Republican party when they claim to be pro-life but nominate ‘type of man whose sex ethics lead to abortions’ and plan ‘to repeal adoption tax credit.’
Regardless of whether they’ve spoken out in favor of specific candidates, though, many of the Duggars have publicly showed support for certain political positions.
They have all come out as anti-abortion, and several enthusiastically promoted the Christian anti-abortion film Unplanned this year.
Several have spoken against homosexuality, including Jill, who most recently backtracked after sharing an image of a copy of the Kama Sutra and insisted that she and Derick only believe in biblical marriage between a man and a woman.
